Leadville Activities and Community

Restaurants, Coffee Shops, & Bars… a few of our favorites

  • Treeline Kitchen -  The newest and likely one of the nicest restaurants in Leadville.  It was an immediate hit among locals and tourists.  Sit on the roof deck and have a drink or a lovely meal and look out on the town and the highest peaks in Colorado.  615 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461; (719) 293-2200

  • Tennessee Pass Cafe - Another of Leadville’s bests, though still the type of small town restaurant in which most will be wearing jeans.  Great American food.  Kid friendly.  Call for reservations. 222 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461; (719) 486-8101

  • Quincy’s Steaks & Spirits - The other nice(r) restaurant in town.  A classic American steakhouse and historical location in Leadville.  416 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461; (719) 486-9765

  • Tennessee Pass Cookhouse - A totally unique and unforgettable place to have dinner.  Walk the one mile+ down an old jeep road to dine on elk (and other treats) in a yurt.  Where else, but Leadville.  Reservations are required and book out well in advance.  There is one seating per evening.  259 County Road 29, Leadville, CO 80461; (719) 486-8114

  • City on a Hill - The best (and sort of the only) coffee shop in town.  A lovely place to sit and read a book.  They also have nice sandwiches, quiches, soups and pastries -- with many gluten free options.  It’s worth stopping in to enjoy all the locally carved wooden art.  508 Harrison Ave #3, Leadville, CO 80461; (719) 486-0797

  • Periodic Brewery - Leadville is proud to boast the highest microbrewery in the US.  Pb is a local favorite with new varieties regularly.  A great place to sit at the bar and talk to local Leadville folk, or head upstairs to play various board games with the family.  Pb also offers some simple pub food.  115 E 7th St, Leadville, CO 80461; (719) 888-4197

  • Cookies with Altitude - An adorable Leadville-unique bakery with various tasty treats, fudge, as well as some sandwiches.  Not the best place to sit down for lunch, but if you’re in need of something sweet… this could be the place.  717 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461; (719) 486-1026

  • High Mountain Pies - A Leadville classic.  Fabulous pizza with a fun open backyard filled with grass, frisbees, picnic tables, and community.  No liquor license available (yet!), but the food is fabulous!  Look for this place off Harrison.  115 W 4th St, Leadville, CO 80461; Phone: (719) 486-5555

  • Golden Burro Cafe & Lounge - Old-school diner, open since 1938, serving up hefty American standards, plus Mexican options.  710 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461; Phone: (719) 486-1239

What to do Beyond Leadville

If you feel like venturing beyond Leadville, here are some lovely options worthy of exploring:

  • Mt. Princeton Hot Springs - Located roughly one hour from Snowbear in the town of Nathrop (just south of Buena Vista) is a lovely hot springs providing adult only areas, spa facilities, river-front soaking pools, and a restaurant at the associated lodge.

  • The town of Buena Vista - Another lovely mountain town on the riverfront with adorable shops, great restaurants, and some drier, often warmer outdoor pursuits.  The Arkansas river runs through town and provides recreation, beauty, and vistas.

  • Silverthorne and the Dillon Outlets - Just down the hill on I-70 is the large collection of outlets.  Endless hopping abounds.

  • Twin Lakes - Just 20 minutes from Snowbear awaits the quaint town of Twin Lakes where a great country store and a single restaurant can be found.  There is great hiking and tremendous views.

  • Independence Pass and the drive to Aspen.  In the summer, perhaps the most beautiful road on the country takes you from Twin Lakes over Independence Pass to Aspen.  Aspen is one hour from Snowbear and worth the drive.  Take a walk at the top of the pass, you won’t regret it.
